Fly on the Wall at Project Arts Centre
We have organised a series of events to take place at the Project Arts Centre on Saturday 16 April.
There will be two afternoon Fly on the Wall sessions of discussion and debate following on from topics raised by the In the Wake of the Rising issue. Making It Up, our separate evening event, will feature writers reading from works in progress and as-yet-unpublished novels and poems.
Tickets for both events are priced at €10/€8. Separate tickets must be purchased for the afternoon and evening events.
For more information and to book tickets please visit Project Arts Centre or call +353 1 8819 613.
In the Wake of the Rising
2pm – 3.30pm
Paula Shields in conversation with guest editor Sean O’Reilly and contributors Evelyn Conlon, Martina Evans and Donal O’Kelly
“The opinion that art should have nothing to do with politics is itself a political attitude.”
George Orwell, Why I Write
Our first panel will reflect on and examine questions raised by the publication of our In the Wake of The Rising issue. A Q&A will follow.
Oblivious of the Differences
4pm – 5.30pm
Our second panel discussion will take as its main theme the under-representation of working class voices and life in contemporary writing from Ireland and Britain.
It will feature Sean O’Reilly in conversation with Niall Griffiths, Jon McGregor, Lisa McInerney and Nuala Ní Chonchúir
The writers present will talk about the challenges they have faced on their own literary journeys and the resistance they have struggled against in their attempts to dramatise their own people in a predominantly middle-class literary culture. The panel will reflect also on the changing nature of the debate around privilege – and consider the place of class in the shifting battles for representation and the permission to write.
Tickets are priced at €10/€8 and cover both the Fly on the Wall sessions. Separate booking required for the evening event. More information & tickets here.
Fly on the Wall participants Martina Evans, Niall Griffiths, Lisa McInerney and Jon McGregor will read from works in progress or as-yet-unpublished novels and poems.
This event will offer the rare opportunity to see and hear world class writing that is still in the process of being made.
Tickets for the evening event are priced at €10/€8. Separate booking required for the afternoon event. More information & tickets here.
