BGE Irish Book Awards — Colin Barrett and Danielle McLaughlin shortlisted for awards

The 2013 Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Award shortlists have been announced, and we are very pleased that Colin Barrett is on the shortlist in the best newcomer category.

‘Bait’, a story from Colin's Young Skins is also nominated in the new short story category — and there's more! Danielle McLaughlin has likewise been shortlisted for her story 'A Different Country' from our new winter issue. Hearty congratulations to Colin and Danielle!

Young Skins by Colin Barrett

Today is Publication Day for our latest book title, Young Skins by Colin Barrett.

The launch is next Thursday October 3rd at 6.30pm in Hodges Figgis - and then afterwards in the Stag's Head. All are welcome.

It's always a nervous time as a book comes out, waiting for the first reviews to appear, the first responses from readers… of course, we think it's bloody brilliant and every man, woman and half-grown child in the country should be reading this book!

Translation issue + Irish Times feature

Our summer issue is dedicated to literary translation. We have 13 new translations of work from 10 languages (11 short stories, 2 extracts); a series of Q&As with translators and others working in the field; essays by Claire Kilroy and Susan Tomaselli; and an interview with Robert Chandler, translator of Vasily Grossman and Andrey Platonov.

The issue is co-edited by Declan Meade and Nora Mahony of Parkbench Publishing Services. It was supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature.
