It’s almost thirty years since he did that walk,
more of a hop really, just what you’d expect
if you want to walk on cheese and the wheels
on the buggy big as the Michelin man
or a child’s tractor, what were
they thinking of up there?
He came at us over the airwaves, the other night,
they bounced his image up to space
and back into the livingroom. He said he never
felt a thing, swears his feet never left the ground.
Does he dream in moonscapes now?
For an out of body experience
that took the biscuit. It was simply out
of this world man.
I showed him to my daughter, That’s Buzz,
he’s an astronaut, he walked on the moon.
That’s nothing, she said, turning a slow pirouette.
I can dance.
