The painted blocks of the Institute
of Technology lecture room are used
for demonstration–so high, so long,
damp-proof course, insulation.
At tea break it’s clear I’m out
of my depth–everyone else
has a site or an old house.
I’m a fantasist, dreaming
of dream houses. An auctioneer
I rang once mistook me
for his daughter. He chuckled
down the line I’ve houses alright,
but they’ve no roofs on them.
Is it an umbrella you want?
