Submissions for this issue are now closed.
In November this year, we will publish a special All New Writers issue, dedicated entirely to showcasing work by writers we have not published before. Our focus for this issue will be on writers who live on the island of Ireland and/or those who consider Ireland their home. Submissions for the issue will be open from Tuesday March 1st until Friday April 15th 2022.
Our mission at The Stinging Fly is to seek out, nurture, publish and promote the very best new writers and new writing. We’ve been doing this work for close to twenty-five years. We recognise that getting started as a writer and progressing towards publication can be extremely difficult. For some, it might well seem like an impossible challenge. With this special issue of the magazine we want to underscore our ongoing commitment to encouraging and supporting new writers.
Restricting submissions for this issue to writers living in Ireland and/or those who consider Ireland to be their home will allow for stronger and deeper engagement with the work that comes in. It will also allow us an opportunity to review and refine our submission process, which we hope will enhance the experience for every writer sending us work into the future.
Contributing editor and novelist Lisa McInerney will lead the team of experienced writers and editors working on this issue. We aim to offer selected writers any assistance they need in preparing their work for publication. We want this issue to properly reflect the range of new work being produced in Ireland today and to showcase writers of all ages and backgrounds.
We encourage writers of fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction who have not yet been published in The Stinging Fly to submit work for this issue. We’d ask everyone reading this to please help us to spread the word so that this call for submissions reaches as many people as possible.
