Poetry Workshop
Our new poetry workshop aims to give poets an opportunity to engage more deeply with their work while allowing them to focus on developing their craft over an extended period of time.
The workshop is intended for poets looking to take their work more seriously and to develop their craft while working with a group of like-minded individuals. Poets interested in submitting should be seriously working toward publishing a manuscript or presenting work to an audience, which could include the development of a collection, chapbook, or commissioned work. The workshop is not intended as a space for beginners or those who are new to writing poems. While the workshop will include generative exercises, the focus will be to develop an existing project submitted as part of the application, rather than to generate new work.
The workshop will run from the end of January until May 2025 and will be led by The Stinging Fly’s poetry editor Annemarie Ní Churreáin.
Eight places are available on the workshop. Places will be offered by the week of Monday 16th December.
Prior to the workshop, participants will be expected to read manuscripts of work in progress from the rest of the group. All work will be shared in advance for close reading by the workshop leader and the other participants.
Applications for the workshop will be accepted from Thursday 14th of November until 5pm (Irish time) Monday 9th of December 2024. Places on the workshops will be offered based on work submitted. We ask poets to submit 8-10 pages from a project/manuscript they are currently working on.
– The application form for the workshop includes a cover note. Use this space to give us as much information as you can about your current writing project and to tell us how you believe your work will benefit from participating in the workshop.
– We are committed to pursuing a proactive approach to diversity and inclusiveness. We strongly encourage writers from underrepresented areas of society to apply for these workshops. If you are such a writer, we hope you feel encouraged to join us. If you know such writers, please spread the word (with our thanks).
We are now accepting applications via Submittable.
Please read through all the information on this page before submitting your application.
